About Presciense
Built by energy experts.
Driven by purpose.
Co-founded in 2015 by Jonathan Lishawa and Dr Gerd Busker, Presciense was built on one conviction: good engineering and straight-talking advice produce better outcomes than templated solutions. A decade on, the work keeps proving it.
Our Story
Over a decade in UK energy, connectivity and data.
Presciense was co-founded in 2015 by Jonathan Lishawa and Dr Gerd Busker. Jonathan brought commercial and telco expertise from BT, Hutchison and consumer electronics. Gerd brought scientific and engineering depth from high-performance computing, nuclear energy and smart infrastructure. Together they built something neither could alone.
Their founding team drew on deep experience from BT, Hutchison, EDF, OVO Energy (SSE) and DCC. They knew what it takes to make smart energy work at scale.
That heritage shows in the results. Presciense technology runs on millions of devices across the UK, Europe and Asia-Pacific. Our platform won the European Smart Energy Award. Our leadership shapes the regulatory bodies governing the UK's smart energy infrastructure.
Today, Presciense operates across three practices: IoT Energy Technology, IoT Health Technology & Assisted Living, and Consultative Services. All built on a standards-based modular agent delivering secure real-time data access. Integrated capability no single-discipline firm can match.
Jonathan Lishawa and Dr Gerd Busker co-found Presciense to unify smart energy management and home automation through a standards-based IoT platform. Jonathan brings commercial, telco and utility expertise; Gerd brings world-class scientific and engineering depth.
Presciense trials In-Home Displays (IHDs) and Consumer Access Devices (CADs) with major UK operators. Smart metering and connectivity programmes launched at national scale.
Presciense wins the European Smart Energy Award.
Presciense agent technology adopted by Sercomm Corporation for their smart home and gateway solutions. Technology deployed across Europe. Machine learning added for demand forecasting and grid optimisation.
Development begins on next-generation Virtual WAN agent technology for BT Openreach and the Smart DCC. Presciense launches Consultative Services, combining regulatory and deployment experience with commercial advisory.
Platform extends to connected care with assisted living features. On-device AI integration using sub-1B parameter LLMs brings intelligent automation directly to the gateway, enabling real-time decision-making without cloud dependency.
Mission
To accelerate the global energy transition through intelligence, technology and trust.
We give UK energy organisations the tools and confidence to navigate the transition. Practically, not theoretically.
Vision
A world where every energy decision is informed by real intelligence.
From the smart meter in homes to boardrooms of global utilities, data, practical experience and clear thinking produce better outcomes for all in the energy system.
Leadership
Exceptional depth.
Unified direction.
Dr Gerd Busker is co-founder and CEO of Presciense. His career spans theoretical physics, electrical engineering, nuclear energy, high-performance computing and cloud architecture. He was Presciense's founding CTO and remains the technical authority behind the platform.
As co-founder and CTO, Gerd architected the standards-based modular platform underpinning everything Presciense builds. He guided multi-disciplinary teams from concept through global deployments across millions of devices. His previous work includes nuclear engineering at Nuclear Electric (now EDF), quantitative platforms at ABN AMRO, and leadership in high-performance computing and cloud infrastructure.
Gerd sits on the board of the Smart Energy Code (SEC), governing UK smart energy infrastructure. He works alongside Jonathan with government departments DESNZ and DSIT, and with regulators Ofgem and Ofcom, ensuring Presciense's platform and advisory services remain aligned with national energy and communications policy.
Jonathan co-founded Presciense in 2015 with Dr Gerd Busker, bringing expertise in consumer electronics, telecommunications and smart energy to build one of the UK's most recognised IoT companies. His conviction that a unified platform could transform energy management has proven prescient over the decade since.
Before Presciense, Jonathan held senior roles across consumer electronics and telecoms. He led Sercomm's UK & Ireland smart energy business, directed Comtrend Europe, served as commercial director at Cable & Wireless, and headed product development at Bulldog Broadband. This background across telcos, manufacturers and growth companies informs everything Presciense does.
As Chairman, Jonathan shapes strategic direction and growth, chairs the board, and represents Presciense in senior commercial, government and investor relations. He works closely with government departments including DESNZ and DSIT, and with regulators Ofgem and Ofcom on smart energy and connectivity policy. He is a recognised speaker on smart energy, IoT strategy and the global energy transition.
Michael Lee is a Director of Presciense and President of the Value Engine Business Group at Sercomm Corporation, a global leader in telecom, broadband and smart home technology. His appointment reflects Sercomm's strategic investment in Presciense and the alignment between the two companies' visions for the connected home.
Sercomm Corporation designs and manufactures broadband routers, gateways, smart home devices and IoT solutions for major telecoms and service providers worldwide. Their investment in Presciense underscores a shared commitment to delivering intelligent, standards-based platforms that bring energy management, home automation and assisted living together through a single gateway.
Michael brings deep expertise in hardware product strategy, global manufacturing and go-to-market execution for connected devices. His leadership bridges the gap between device manufacturing and software platform innovation, strengthening Presciense's ability to deliver end-to-end solutions from silicon to cloud.
